Join us on our fantastic virtual live Watercolour Painting and Cooking Retreats in Italy, with daily live painting & drawing session of stunning scenes from around Italy, daily cooking classes of typical regional foods from our painting locations, from breakfasts to antipasti, main courses and typical aperitive afternoon drinks & snacks. Our program takes you to your favourite locations with all your senses tuned in to enjoy Italy to the full even from afar and gets your creativity going.

We will start each day preparing and enjoying an Italian inspired breakfast before endeavoring on a watercolour painting adventure of a classic Italian scene.

During our interactive painting classes, your professional art tutor John will not only be working along-side, demonstrating techniques, whilst you are producing your own image of a Classic Italian scene, but he will also take you to explore the location through our video recorded introductions to the location bringing glorious parts of Italy directly into your home. Where possible, our zoom painting sessions will also take place en-plein air, in the grounds of the Retreat (our Italian guest house and art studio), overlooking the rolling Italian hill-side and magical ancient hill-top towns.

Each class will be delivered live through zoom and recording links will also be available for you, should you not be able to attend each class or should time zone differences make attending every workshop difficult. So that, you can enjoy your Italian summer art retreat in your own time and space.

During our daily live afternoon cooking classes and cook-alongs, The Retreat’s Cooking instructor Jana, a passionate cook and truffle hunter will introduce you to typical meals and drinks from each of our daily painting locations. You are invited to cook along or sit, watch and enjoy learning how to cook Italian regional dishes. The ingredient lists and recipes, we provide together with our comprehensive retreat package. As part of the live cooking classes, we will of course, also introduce you to preparing typical Italian aperitivi and snacks, which you can straight away enjoy on our daily ‘Artist’s Happy Hour’ Paint & Sips when your experienced tutor John will be introducing you to new techniques new techniques to help you improve your painting skills further.

Allergies/Intolerances etc. Whilst the recipes selected represent the local classic cuisine, we understand that not all ingredients may be suitable for everyone. We therefore, for all cooking classes will suggest alternative ingredients will be suggested in case of allergies, intolerances etc. during the classes’ question and answer sessions. Cooking times and recipes are also adapted to allow you to re-produce dishes easily and stress-free. You can also email your questions or intolerances/allergies etc prior to the retreat commencing, and we will ensure they are given consideration during the classes.

The Renaissance town of Ascoli Piceno in le Marche, boasts the most historic towers with over 100, of the originally 200, are still standing today. It is also home to Italy’s finest renaissance travertine Square, and we will be exploring this most beautiful hidden gem, sitting in the shade of the historic café Meletti (as in the the scene of La Dolce Vita) and enjoy watercolouring a classic scene in the Piazza del Popolo of this historic town.

Any events you cannot attend live due to your time zone differences, are available for you to complete in your own time. Classes will be available for you within two hours of each class completed, via on-line link. Cancellation Policy

  1. Booking Deposits of 10% required to reserve a place. Booking Deposits are non-refundable but can be transferred to another attendee nominated by the booking party.
  2. Full Payment amounts are due 14 days prior to retreat date. An invoice payable online through Paypal (no account required, all major cards accepted) will be issued to you prior to the invoice amount due date. Any card or Paypal charges applied to by your card/account issuers at your cost.)

5 Classical Drawing Figure Classes:

If you already have a range of supplies, you may wish to choose the 5 classical figure drawing classes (downloadable) instead, as we will supply a list of materials needed for each class.

This course follows the classic 19th century European Art Academy Barque Drawing Course, the corner stone of classic drawing and painting practice as taught throughout European Art Academies in the 19th century. Each lesson is 2 hours in length and forms an excerpt of the extensive Charles Bargue curriculum.

Class recordings. All classes will be recorded and links and access codes will be provided to all registered attendees, so you can complete classes in your own time and space.

Recordings or part of recording may be used for promotional purposes of our art classes and retreats. Recordings may not be used by third parties and must not be downloaded and distributed to other parties or be used for commercial purposes of any kind and may only be used for personal purposes. Recorded materials remain the copyright property of Painting Holidays Italy Ó and licensing violations may be pursued through legal action.

Health and Safety

Art Classes

It is the responsibility of each attend to ensure that any activities relating to this virtual retreat are undertaken in a safe environment suitable for each type of activity.

Art materials are to be handled safely and in case, of allergies, etc, it is the responsibility of the attendee to inform itself of any substances contained in any materials used that may cause an allergic reaction. Gloves should be worn if necessary. Electrical equipment, including hairdryers (to dry water colour paper/work), smart phones, tablets etc must be operated under safe conditions.

Cooking Classes

It is the responsibility of each registered attendee to ensure that cooking along in the on-line classes is conducted under safe conditions with regards to handling cooking equipment, ingredients and also electrical devices, including smart phones, tablets etc.

In case of allergies, food intolerances or other motives, ingredients concerned must be excluded by the attendee. Your cooking instructor is happy to provide a list of alternative ingredients by request and mentions of substitutes and alternative products and means of food preparation will be made during the interactive classes and question and answer sessions.
