Travel Journalist & Sketcher Shikha Shah
I am an Indian TRAVEL WRITER & SKETCHER with more than 15 years of experience in lifestyle writing. I write about food, travel, culture, art, and architecture, focusing on slow, mindful, and sustainable travel. You will find my work in some of the leading Indian and international publications like the BBC UK, The Times of India, Travel & Leisure, Conde Nast Traveller, Architectural Digest, Vogue, Namaste.ai – Air India’s in-flight magazine, Singapore-based Lightfoot Travel, The Straits Times Singapore, The Destinasian Magazine, A+ Singapore Luxury Magazine, Outlook Traveller, Indulge Express, Spice – India Today’s Luxury Magazine, New Zealand Herald and India Outbound among others. Art and travel are close to my heart, and I take inspiration from my journeys to create vivid paintings using pen and watercolour. Seeing my artwork published alongside my writing fills me with pure joy!
Having sketched my way through India, Bhutan, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, Georgia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Seychelles, Egypt, Portugal and several other destinations, I truly believe that slowing down, observing the little details around you and rendering them on a sketch pad allows you to appreciate a place’s nuances differently. Moreover, travel sketching is akin to meditation; it encourages you to be more present in the moment and savour it fully. You return home with a deeper connection with the destination, its culture, cuisine, history, architecture, and a priceless keepsake – your sketchbook filled with descriptions and observations of the people you’ve met, the places you’ve seen, and the experiences you’ve had. Why watercolour? I love its elegance, subtlety and the way it allows light to shine through. Each of my paintings is a window into my journey; it reflects my personal experience and perspective of the place, combined with my unwavering passion for art. I truly feel blessed to be able to document my journeys in a unique, beautiful way.
