MEET YOUR TUTOR
John W. Skelcher
My name is John Skelcher, and I am a professional landscape artist and have over 25 years of art tutoring experience. I have been teaching students of all levels of ability, from beginner’s to degree level. Whether I am teaching oil painting, drawing or watercolours , I always strive to bring out the best in my students and positively encourage them to develop confidence in their skills. I have taken many students on art trips to Italy and France and enjoy sharing my knowledge of painting techniques and the History of Art during the annual workshops and art retreats I teach for Painting Holiday Italy.
I studied Fine Art Painting and Art History at University in the UK, as well as Classic Realist Painting at Angel Academy in Florence and Paris Academy, France.
In over 30 years’ of tutoring, I have helped many budding artists achieve their artistic goals. I love the challenge of capture the light and reflections of the landscapes and urban scenes that inspire my work. In my urban work, I seek to capture the serenity that can be found in even the busiest locations and eternalise those brief, fleeting moments in time of every day situations.In my landscape work, I follow the natural lines that draw the eye along a naturally flowing path, along highlights in the panorama, eventually arriving in the mysterious far distance. Those highlights, the artist’s eye is drawn to by the ever changing light of day exposes a myriad of details from building, fields, trees or vineyards. Depicting those details before the light moves on, is a challenge for any plain-painter. With years’ of practice, I have developed quick and effective techniques in my work, I introduce my students to use as effective tools to enrich their work in style and detail.
